8 Structured Data Types That Boost AI Citations

10 May 2026 · by Yunmin Shin

Why Do Structured Data Types Matter for AI Citations?

Structured data communicates intent and context to AI engines in a machine-readable format. While AI language models can often infer content type from writing style alone, explicit schema markup removes ambiguity — and removes ambiguity is how you win AI citations consistently.

Here are the eight schema types that deliver the most AEO impact for Bangkok businesses.

1. FAQPage Schema

The highest-impact schema type for AEO. FAQPage schema explicitly marks your question-and-answer content as a structured FAQ. Google AI Overviews heavily favor FAQ-marked pages when answering informational queries.

Implement on: all service pages with a FAQ section, dedicated FAQ pages, and blog posts with Q&A formatting.

2. HowTo Schema

Marks step-by-step instructional content. AI engines love HowTo content because it is self-contained and directly actionable. Perplexity and Google AI Overviews regularly cite HowTo pages for process-oriented queries.

Implement on: any page that walks through a process — "how to register a Thai company," "how to set up Google Analytics," "how to apply for a Bangkok business license."

3. LocalBusiness Schema

Establishes your business as a recognized local entity in Google's knowledge graph. Includes name, address, phone, hours, and service area. This is table stakes for any Bangkok business with a physical location or local service area.

Implement on: homepage, contact page, and any location-specific landing pages.

4. Article / BlogPosting Schema

Signals that a page is a published article with a specific author, publication date, and modification date. AI engines use this to assess content freshness and authorship credibility.

Implement on: every blog post and news article. Always include dateModified and a linked author entity.

5. BreadcrumbList Schema

Communicates your site's hierarchical structure to crawlers. While not directly cited by AI engines, BreadcrumbList schema improves crawl efficiency and helps Google understand how your content is organized — a foundational AEO signal.

Implement on: every page with a logical navigation path above the content.

6. Organization Schema

Defines your business as an entity with an official name, logo, URL, and sameAs links to authoritative external profiles. This is central to entity authority building and helps AI engines confidently identify and cite your brand.

Implement on: homepage, typically in the site-wide <head> section.

7. Review / AggregateRating Schema

Displays star ratings in Google Search results, increasing click-through rates significantly. For Bangkok restaurants, clinics, hotels, and professional services, visible ratings give your listing a visual edge over competitors.

Implement on: pages that aggregate genuine customer reviews. Never fabricate ratings.

8. Speakable Schema

An underused but growing schema type that explicitly marks which content sections are appropriate for voice and audio delivery. As voice search and AI assistant adoption grows in Thailand, Speakable schema positions your content for this format.

Implement on: pages with clear, answer-oriented content that you want surfaced in voice search results.

How Do You Prioritize Implementation?

If you are starting from zero, implement in this order: LocalBusiness, Organization, FAQPage, Article. These four cover the majority of AEO and local SEO use cases for Bangkok businesses.

Validate every implementation with Google's Rich Results Test before publishing.
