Google Business Profile Optimization for Bangkok 2026

30 April 2026 · by Yunmin Shin

Why Is Google Business Profile Critical for Bangkok Businesses?

Google Business Profile (GBP) is the single most important local SEO asset for any Bangkok business. When someone searches for your business category near them, the Local Pack — the map with three business listings — appears above all organic results.

Appearing in the Local Pack for competitive Bangkok searches (restaurants, clinics, law firms, gyms) can generate significantly more calls and visits than ranking in position one organically. And GBP is free.

How Do You Choose the Right Business Categories?

Category selection is one of the highest-impact GBP optimizations. Google uses your primary category to determine which searches you are eligible to appear for.

Choose your primary category as specifically as possible. A Thai massage business should select "Thai massage therapist" rather than just "massage therapist" or "spa." Use secondary categories to cover adjacent services — but do not add categories that do not accurately describe your business.

Check what categories your top local competitors use. In Bangkok, many businesses leave secondary categories blank — taking the time to fill them in gives you a competitive advantage.

What Photos Should You Upload?

Photos signal to Google that your profile is active and credible. For Bangkok businesses:

  • Upload a minimum of 20 photos across different categories
  • Include exterior photos from the street so customers can find you
  • Include interior shots showing the atmosphere
  • Show your team or owner (human faces build trust)
  • Upload product or service photos with natural lighting
  • Add new photos at least twice per month to signal ongoing activity

Businesses with more than 100 photos reportedly receive significantly more direction requests and website clicks than those with fewer than ten.

How Do Google Posts Work and Should You Use Them?

Google Posts are short updates (up to 1,500 characters) that appear on your GBP listing. They are similar to social media posts but appear directly in Google Search and Maps.

Use Google Posts weekly to:

  • Announce promotions or seasonal offers
  • Highlight new products or services
  • Share upcoming events
  • Publish tips relevant to your business niche

Posts expire after seven days, so consistent publishing is necessary. This activity signals to Google that your business is operating and engaged.

How Should Bangkok Businesses Handle Reviews?

Reviews directly impact your Local Pack ranking. A structured review strategy includes:

  1. Requesting reviews actively — via LINE message, email follow-up, or a QR code at the point of sale
  2. Responding to every review within 48 hours — Google measures response rate
  3. Using keywords naturally in your responses — this adds context for Google
  4. Never incentivizing reviews — it violates Google's policies and risks suspension

For Thai customers who prefer to write in Thai, that is perfectly fine. Google understands Thai-language reviews and they count equally.

What Is the Q&A Section and How Should You Manage It?

The Q&A section on your GBP listing allows anyone to ask a question — and anyone to answer. Many Bangkok businesses ignore this entirely, which means incorrect answers from strangers appear on their profile.

Monitor the Q&A section weekly. Pre-populate it with your own common questions and authoritative answers. This is essentially free FAQ content that Google displays to potential customers.
